Kieler Maschinenwerke looks back on a long history and tradition. Founded in 1866 as an artillery depot and later a torpedo workshop, its success story in engine manufacturing began with the founding of MAK Maschinenbau Kiel AG in 1948. With the renaming of Krupp MaK to Caterpillar Motoren GmbH & Co. KG in 1997, the site developed into the headquarters for medium-speed diesel, gas, and dual-fuel engines. Since August 2022, the division has been operating as an independent company under the name ProMachining.
This experience in the manufacture of complex components such as connecting rods, cylinder heads, and crankcases remains an important part of the business to this day.
With the gradual development of the company, the next chapter in its history began: The company changed its name from ProMachining and is now known as Kieler Maschinenwerke GmbH. This now also reflects what the company has stood for for years: reliable mechanical engineering expertise from Kiel, with strong roots and a clear positioning as a modern industrial brand.

The range of services includes the mechanical processing of components on a contract manufacturing basis as well as complementary services such as reverse engineering and metallurgical laboratory services. Kieler Maschinenwerke has a modern machine park with 15 CNC machines and additional workstations for mechanical (post-)processing and can process components up to a size of 3m x 9m and a total weight of up to 100 tons.
The customer portfolio is diverse and comprises various segments, including machine, commercial vehicle, and tool manufacturing.
